AquaSeal PAK-Stop Elastic Trowel Filler System

This is the system we reach for when movement, emissions, or old adhesive history make standard fillers fail.

Not sure if your floor requires a flexible system?

AquaSeal PAK-Stop is a high-elastic, waterborne trowel filler system designed to seal joints, cracks, and emission points in problematic hardwood floors, especially older floors with movement, contamination, or legacy adhesive beds.

PAK-Stop was engineered to encase and suppress emissions from old adhesive residues (PAKs / PAHs) while still allowing the floor to move naturally. When mixed correctly with AquaSeal Pafuki Powder, it forms a rubber-like, permanently elastic compound that flexes instead of cracking or tearing out.

This system makes it possible to restore valuable historic or contaminated floors that would otherwise be torn out, while remaining fully compatible with modern waterborne finish systems.

What makes PAK-Stop different

  • Permanently high-elastic after cure

  • Designed to move with seasonal expansion and contraction

  • Seals joints while reducing emissions from old adhesive beds

  • Applied as a full-floor trowel fill

  • Compatible with all Berger-Seidle waterborne finishes after sanding

  • Saves historic and contaminated floors that are otherwise unfinishable

System requirement (critical)

PAK-Stop is a two-component system and must be mixed with AquaSeal Pafuki Powder at approximately 30 percent by weight.

  • PAK-Stop provides elasticity

  • Pafuki Powder provides color and structure

  • Together they create a workable, elastic filler paste suitable for stainless steel trowel application

Using PAK-Stop without Pafuki Powder is not correct and will lead to failure.

Application overview

  • Sand floor to bare wood (60–100 grit)

  • Remove wax and old filler residues from joints

  • Mechanically mix PAK-Stop with Pafuki Powder immediately before use

  • Trowel tightly over the entire surface with minimal residue

  • Allow to dry fully (typically 14–16 hours, longer for oily species)

  • Sand back to bare wood before final finishing

Note: Slight surface tackiness after overnight drying is normal and product-specific. Mask sander wheels before sanding to prevent buildup.

Dry time & coverage

  • Sandable: approx. 14–16 hours

  • Coverage: approx. 408 sq ft per gallon equivalent per TDS
Real-world coverage is often less due to large joints and gaps

Dustin’s Notes (Real-World Use)

This is not a standard filler. It is a movement-control system.

Expect more sanding time and higher abrasive use than conventional fillers. That is the tradeoff for elasticity. Shrinkage in very large joints is normal, so plan for a second pass if needed.

On big jobs, I strongly recommend taping board edges before filling. It dramatically reduces sanding labor. For joints deeper than 1/4 inch, install backer rod first to control depth and material usage.
